El 10 de agosto de 2026, un terremoto de magnitud 7,4 azotó Colombia, provocando destrozos en las ciudades de Cali, Pereira, Manizales y otros departamentos de Chocó, Valle del Cauca y el Eje Cafetero. Cientos de personas han fallecido, miles han resultado heridas y muchas otras continúan desaparecidas. El alcance total de las pérdidas humanas y materiales aún se está evaluando, pero la profundidad de la pérdida es imposible de medir. Tanto a nivel individual como comunitario, nos aferramos a los vínculos compartidos, a la memoria y al sentido de hogar que nos mantienen unidas.
La cobertura mediática internacional ya está disminuyendo y, en las próximas semanas, las cámaras pasarán a la siguiente noticia. Sin embargo, para cientos de lideresas comunitarias, organizaciones y colectivas de la región, este es apenas el comienzo de un largo camino para RESISTIR, SOSTENERSE MUTUAMENTE y VOLVER A FLORECER.
¿Y quién sostiene a quienes sostienen?
Optunias, una fundación que otorga subvenciones y ha movilizado recursos a favor de la equidad, la justicia social y una vida libre de violencia desde 2022, está recaudando fondos para la recuperación a largo plazo de mujeres, comunidades LGBTQ+, infancias y personas con discapacidad en las zonas más afectadas; personas y comunidades que, ante cualquier crisis, enfrentan mayores barreras para acceder a recursos, corren un mayor riesgo de violencia e inseguridad y tienen menor influencia en las políticas de respuesta ante emergencias como esta.
¿A qué estás contribuyendo?
Estos fondos apoyarán a organizaciones, colectivas y lideresas comunitarias residentes de Cali, el Valle del Cauca y Chocó, que conocen y comprenden las necesidades reales de su comunidad. Son ellas quienes deben decidir por dónde comenzar la reconstrucción. Las entidades beneficiarias utilizarán estos recursos para fortalecer sus servicios, incluyendo apoyo psicosocial, espacios de cuidado colectivo, asistencia técnica para acceder a programas gubernamentales y privados de recuperación, fortalecimiento de capacidades legales y organizativas, y educación sobre derechos, entre otros.
Si bien estos fondos también pueden brindarnos la flexibilidad de apoyar proyectos que atiendan necesidades de emergencia inmediata, el objetivo central de esta campaña es sostener a las personas que impulsan la recuperación integral y a largo plazo de sus comunidades.

On August 10, 2026, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, devastating the cities of Cali, Pereira, Manizales, and other municipalities in the Chocó, Valle del Cauca, and the Coffee Region. Hundreds have died, thousands have been injured, and many remain missing. The full loss of life and material damage are still being assessed, but the deeper loss can't be measured at all. Individually and as a community, we're holding on to the shared ground, memory, and sense of home that hold us together.
International news coverage is already fading, and in the coming weeks, the cameras will move on to the next headline. But for hundreds of community leaders, organizations, and collectives across the region, this is just the beginning of a long journey to RESIST, HOLD EACH OTHER UP, AND FLOURISH again.
So who sustains those who sustain everyone else?
Optunias, a grantmaking foundation that has mobilized resources for equity, social justice, and a life free of violence since 2022, is raising funds for the long-term recovery of women, LGBTQ+ communities, children, and people with disabilities in the hardest-hit areas: people and communities who, in every crisis, face greater barriers to resources, greater risk of violence and insecurity, and less influence over the policies responding to these emergencies.
What does your gift support?
These funds will support organizations, collectives, and community leaders in Cali, Valle del Cauca, and Chocó who live there, know their neighbors, and understand what their community actually needs. They're the ones who should decide where to start rebuilding. Grantees will use these resources to strengthen their services, including psychosocial support, collective care spaces, technical support to access government and private recovery programs, legal and organizational capacity building, and know-your-rights education, among others.
These funds may also give us the flexibility to support projects addressing immediate emergency needs, but at its core, this campaign is designed to sustain the people holding up the full, long-term recovery of their communities.
